We plan to design the printer to be high-volume manufactured from the get-go assuming plastic parts will be injection molded, and metal parts will be die-cast. We plan to use mass produced components and standard sizes and dimensions to take advantage of the economy of scale already in place. We plan to use advanced control techniques such as P.I.D. control of DC (Continuous servo) motors. We are using a Delta robot design to reduce the need for expensive linear bearings and threaded rod.
Once the prototype is completed this summer we will pose the project to Kickstarter.com to fund full scale production. We have experience with volume scale injection molding, PCB fab and assembly and part source chains.
